Rags, Spirituals, and Blues: Four Virginia Musicians In-Person
Author and musician Dr. Gregg D. Kimball explores the world of four Black musicians in a multimedia show featuring rare images, recordings, and live performance. A former director at the Library of Virginia, Gregg will explore the lives and music of Culpeper County songster James Lee “Jimmie” Strother, Rappahannock County’s John Jackson, William “Barber Bill” Moore, who settled in Tappahannock, and Caroline County’s John Cephas. Gregg will be joined by his long-time musical partners Sheryl Warner and Rick Manson. Copies of his recent book Searching for Jimmie Strother will be available at the talk.
